FRENCH c.1790 SOLID SILVER CHATELAINE COMPLETE BOXESWHISTLE SEWING MOP RARE

Description

A rare complete and important c.1790-1840 French solid silver (heavy) Chatelaine with incredible attachments.
An antique French solid silver chatelaine with numerous accessories,
dating to the second half of the 19th Century with some earlier attachments.
The three panel chatelaine is cast with various designs. The largest panel has a cherub holding a scythe and a bunch of grapes, representing the wine harvest. The panel below has Roman style heads in profile either side of an olive sprig. The lower panel has crossed flaming torches - a love symbol. Each of these panels is stamped with the French 'Boars Head' silver mark for 800 grade silver, in use since 1838.
The central purse section is formed from an adapted silver snuff box,

18th Century, Louis XV style with Romanesque repousse decoration - unmarked, minimum 800 grade silver, with expected age related surface wear.

French Silver seal in the form of a seated dog - unmarked
French Silver seal in the form of a dolphin - Boars Head mark to tail
French silver charm in the form of a cockerel - unmarked
French silver baby rattle with whistle - Boars Head mark to each silver link attaching the bells, expected wear and small dents to bells
French Silver engraved cache box with hinged lid and Sacred Heart finial - the base with 18th Century silver mark, crowned fleur de lys, makers initials DF, flower discharge mark, solder repairs seen internally
Cylindrical silver box with threaded lid containing a silver thimble and mother of pearl cased tape measure - unmarked, looped handle detached to one side
